ADVAC Model 04: Advanced Design, continuous improvement

Hello folks! Jay Lavrinc here. I'm excited to talk to you about the new ADVAC Model 04.

We often receive calls from customers who have older versions of the ADVAC breakers and are looking for available replacement options. I’d like to share some information on our new ADVAC breaker Model 04 which provides the benefits of dependable vacuum interrupters with advanced contact design and proven reliability.

The new ADVAC circuit breaker continues to improve upon previous designs. Although some aspects remain unchanged, the differences set this generation of circuit breakers apart from the rest. The operating mechanism was refreshed with the EL mechanism featuring quick and easy accessory installations. New programmable “smart” coils provide close, open, and undervoltage actuation of the breaker. All models feature embedded poles that attain excellent dielectric and thermal capabilities as well as provide superior protection against outside influences.

I'm sure by now you're interested in what's changed from the Model 03 to the new Model 04. Take a look at the list below.

Model 04 vs. Model 03 changes:
  • No functional changes to ADVAC
  • Installation and racking is the same
  • Functional operations are unchanged
  • Direct replacement with Model 03 unless match-n-line to existing switchgear with ADVAC Model 03 that has mechanical PB’s on breaker door
  • 1200/2000A, 50kA requires mylar inserts in bushing CT’s
  • UL listing available on all ratings
  • Expanded 3-cycle interruption ifferings
  • All 15kV ADVAC Model 04 breakers are now available in 3-cycle
  • Limited 5kV ADVAC
  • All optional wiring for Model 03 is now Standard in Model 04, I.E. Coil monitoring, Spring charged and pin monitor. Contacts 52a 52b.
  • Model 04 breakers axially contacts provided with fork screw terminals verse spade connectors on Model 03
  • All ADVAC Model 04 come with ABB’s new Smart Coil technology
  • Truck racking pin block can handle up to 180 ft-lbs of torque - Model 03 was 50 ft-lb.

How does this help you? Take a look at your benefits:
  • Manual provisions to charge, close, and open the breaker
  • Built in charging lever
  • EL mechanism features extremely limited and simple maintenance
  • Mechanical anti-pumping device supplies as standard
  • Quick and easy smart coil installation

And there's more. Take a look at ADVAC breaker
advantages:
  • Reduced total cost of ownership
  • Quicker, easier maintenance
  • Lower inventory due to common accessories
  • Reduced forces needed to operate the breaker means reduced wear
  • Lower operational costs
  • Reliable – 10’s of thousands in operation worldwide
  • Versatile worldwide - testing performed per ANSI & IEC for acceptance worldwide
  • Commonality of parts across ABB products (LV & MV Breakers, IEC or ANSI)
